As the two girls walked together with their fingers intertwined, a comfortable silence settled between them. Unlike with anyone else, Chie wasn’t bothered by quiet moments when she was with Yukiko. All that really mattered to her was that they were together again. This was the happiest she’d been in ages, since before Yukiko got so busy and disappeared. She really had been worried, and a day never went by without thinking of her. But she knew that Yukiko didn’t mean for that to happen, and now she just wanted to help her relax as best as she could. “Ah, we’re almost there already!” she said, surprised at how fast the time went.

Yukiko enjoyed the moments of silence almost more than anything. It was nice to just be together, enjoying each other’s company and not having to say anything for the other to know how happy they were at the moment. There were times she wondered what she’d done to deserve such happiness, but in the end it really didn’t matter. “Time flies,” she replied with a slight chuckle. “Are your parents home? I don’t want to just barge in and disrupt them…” She hadn’t even thought to ask if it would be okay with them if she came over.

Thinking for a moment, she replied “Um, I think mom is probably home by now. Not sure if my dad is yet.” Chie’s father tended to stay at work until it was kind of late, so it was possible he wouldn’t be home yet. She couldn’t think of a reason why her mother wouldn’t be home by this time, though. “Don’t worry about it though! They won’t mind you coming over. Even though it’s been a while since the last time, I’m sure they’re used to it by now.” she said, laughing. As they reached the entrance to her house, she opened the door and called out. “I’m home! Anybody here?” Taking a moment to listen, she was greeted with silence. “Huh. I wonder why mom’s not here, that’s kinda weird.”

“My house? Sure, that’s fine!” she replied with a bright smile. She was excited to be able to spend this much time with Yukiko after so long. Looking up at the sky, she noticed that the sun was starting to set. “Should we get going then? We can just start walking towards my house and…we’ll get there when we get there!” she said, looking over and grinning at Yukiko.

“Sounds good,” she replied, nodding a bit and smiling still. She wondered if she would be able to stay the night- it’d been so long since they stayed the night at each other’s places, staying up late and talking about various things. Yukiko didn’t even want to think of the inn or anything like that- she just wanted to enjoy the time they had. So smiling at the girl, and their hands still connected, they began to walk in the direction of Chie’s house.

Thinking for a moment, she said “I don’t really care what we do either, but hmm…well we could just walk around town a little if you want! It’s cooled down a bit so it’s kinda nice out now.” She smiled happily, just glad to have the person she cared about most back with her. The time they’d spent apart had made Chie pretty lonely, no matter how much time she spent with her friends in the meantime.

“Alright, that sounds good,” she said, smiling a bit. “Do you think afterwards we could go to your house and just relax?” It was still too hectic over at the inn- she knew if they went anywhere near there that she’d end up getting pulled into the fray and then she’d have to leave Chie. That was the last thing she wanted. She gripped the girl’s hand a bit more, head resting on her shoulder.

“My house? Sure, that’s fine!” she replied with a bright smile. She was excited to be able to spend this much time with Yukiko after so long. Looking up at the sky, she noticed that the sun was starting to set. “Should we get going then? I know I’ve said that before, but I do mean it.” It was the truth, even if Yukiko didn’t quite believe that yet. “I care about you and I’d be happy to be able to help you out with anything.” It was hard for her to be so upfront with things like this, but she felt like she needed to say it. “You’re right…I’m just glad you’re here, so that’s good enough for me!” she said with a slight laugh. “Is there anything you wanna do right now then?”

She knew that she meant it, she had never doubted that. “You’re too good to me sometimes, y’know that?” she asked, smiling a little. “I don’t care what we do- I just wanna spend time with you.” She wanted to make up for all the time that they had spent apart, the time they hadn’t gotten to spend together.

I wanna be there for you when things get tough, y’know…” When Yukiko’s lips brushed against her cheek, she couldn’t help but smile again as she felt her face heat up. “I-I missed you too…I was really worried about you, honestly.” she confessed, taking the other girl’s hand in her own.

“I know, I’m sorry,” she sighed, twining her fingers with Chie’s. “I wanted to call you so many times, but….every time I tried I would either get distracted by something or I started worrying that I might be bothering you.” She knew what Chie would say to that last bit but even if she claimed that it wouldn’t have bothered her that didn’t reassure Yukiko too much. “I’m here now though….so let’s just enjoy our time together, okay?”

You shoulda let me know, I would’ve helped out!” She was sad to think of Yukiko going through all that by herself. “I’m glad you got through it okay though.” she said, offering a smile.

“Yeah, she’s fine now. I think the stress of everything just ended up getting to her…” She chuckled a bit at her enthusiasm, shaking her head slightly. “No, I didn’t want to bother you with all that.” As willing as she knew Chie would have been to help her out, Yukiko didn’t want to push her burdens onto the girl. She smiled a bit more, nodding before glancing around quickly. Noting that no one was around she leaned forward and placed a light kiss to the girl’s cheek. “I really did miss you,” she said quietly, her head resting on Chie’s shoulder.

“Mhm,” she replied, nodding a bit. “Things got really hectic…we had some staff leave and then new staff that we had to train, mom got sick at one point and was in the hospital….” She sighed a bit. “There was a lot that was going on….I think things are starting to quiet down now, though.”
